"Bad Food. Mess You Up!"

If you like Seinfeld, raise your hand. ✋ Such an iconic show that I can still watch to this day and have a great laugh over it. That show comes with so many hilarious go-to phrases and even funnier "Similar-to-life" situations.
Remember when Kenny Rogers Roasters Chicken came to their block and Kramer was hanging out the window yelling, "BAD CHICKEN. MESS YOU UP!"? 😂 It was a while ago that I ate something and jokingly said to Jim, "Bad___. Mess you up!" He laughed. I laughed. Then, I realized, I needed to laugh it off. So, that's what I have to do.

What's life if we can't find some kind of laugher or humor in a situation, right? And when food is life and your life can't handle a majority of foods, it can become depressing. I've had to mourn food losses and IMMEDIATELY throw those feelings right out or else never mature from this health journey.
So, rather than wallow in what I can't have, let's have a laugh.
Here's the foods I have "failed" with eating in just this week alone.  This is my life. The way I have to eat, the way I view food, and the way that I read food labels is not the "average" way of living life. So, why not have a funny, light hearted way of documenting one measly week of trialing these food items?

*Disclaimer* there are hundreds of foods that I have already trialed and have failed since the beginning of "mistaking" my MCAS years ago. These are just some of the foods that I have eaten from the past few days to show how I can't even handle the simplest of foods. If I wasn't so darn self-conscious about how my face looks after eating these problematic foods, I'd also show a picture of what it does to my face. Furthermore, there's no picture that depicts how badly my whole body can feel *internally* after eating a food that sets my mast cells into a tailspin of overreaction. It can be days, sometimes weeks, of symptoms from one new food item. That’s no exaggeration!

Bad Chips. Mess You Up! Give you face redness, raised bumps, gnarling stomach pain that will last for days, insomnia, tongue swelling, and sore and painful eyes.

Bad Peanut Butter. Mess You Up. Give you horrendous post nasal drip, sensations of choking, difficulty with swallowing, gnarling stomach ache, raised, red bumps on your cheeks, painful bloating, swollen, painful eyes, and numb toes that hurt to walk on the next morning.
Bad Cashew Clusters. Mess you up and give you immediate red, raised, burning hot, itching cheeks and gnawing stomach pains. You'll wake up the next morning feeling like your face was punched, your eyes will be swollen, and your stomach will look pregnant.
Bad Brown Rice Pasta. Mess you up and give you immediate distending stomach with red hot burning and itching cheeks.
Bad Omega 3 capsules. Mess you up and give you the worst stomachache for 24 hours.
(Backstory: I ran out of my usually safe liquid Omega 3 oil that I buy from Mustard Seed so I thought to use Jim's capsules. I took 2 capsules with lunch and noticed a weird stomach ache, but thought it must've been my food even though my meal was something I normally eat and it seemed odd to feel as badly as I felt. As the hour went on, the stomachache worsened and continued to be awful all throughout the night until almost the following morning. When I got out of bed it hit me to look at the bottle. Dumb capsules say: "Contain soy". I can't touch soy with a ten foot pole. I was so angry with myself for not reading that in the fine print in the first place. 😡😫)

Let's take a brief pause to write down some of my worst *food reaction* foods: (Every day is trial and error with MCAS & just because a food item is “safe” doesn’t mean it will stay safe.)
  • 🔺SOY🔻~ horrendous reactions. Blood pressure drops, heart races, excruciating facial burning and red rash just to name a few symptoms.
  • peanuts/peanut butter {possibly most any nuts, but still figuring this out}
  • onions--terrible stomach ache!
  • granola--stomach ache, burning face, and ridiculous bloating.
  • chocolate; especially chocolate with soy.
  • citric acid
  • palm oil
  • iodized salt
  • corn syrup
  • vinegars: especially white and red wine
  • Cromolyn Sodium (added unsafe in 12/20).
